A cross-border partnership
Denmark and Germany agreed to split the work as follows in their state treaty: Denmark will build an immersed tunnel under the Baltic and upgrade and finance the rail links on its side. It is planned to finance the crossing by tolls. The Kingdom of Denmark can also charge tolls for road and rail use.
The company Fehmarn A/S is responsible for planning the fixed link on the Danish side. It is part of the state-owned company Sund & Bælt Holding A/S and has already been involved in the Great Belt and Öresund fixed links.
Germany has undertaken to upgrade the cross-border rail links and road connections to the south by the time the Fehmarn Belt Fixed Link opens.
